Women’s Health Beyond Hormones

7th August 2026

Everyday wellbeing is reshaping the future of women’s health

Women’s health is becoming one of the biggest opportunities in nutrition. However, brands risk missing the mark if they continue to focus on life stages rather than everyday wellbeing.

Consumers want products that fit naturally into daily routines and solve real problems. This means addressing issues such as poor sleep, stress, joint discomfort, and cognitive performance before talking about hormones or menopause.

FMCG Gurus’ latest research highlights that successful women’s health products will be those that lead with benefits consumers actively seek rather than conditions they may not identify with.

Women's Health, Happy Women

Consumers prioritize everyday wellbeing

Women’s health concerns are often broader than the industry assumes. While hormones influence many symptoms, they are not what women are thinking about when choosing products.

Research shows that 37% of women are concerned about bone and joint health, compared to 25% who cite mental wellbeing and just 16% who say they are concerned about hormonal health. This suggests brands should focus first on the symptoms women experience rather than leading with hormonal positioning.

A symptom-first approach feels more relevant and makes products accessible to a wider audience. It also creates opportunities to appeal to consumers before they begin searching for menopause-specific solutions.

Sleep creates a natural entry point

Sleep stands out as one of the strongest opportunities within women’s health. Across every generation, almost half of women experience difficulty sleeping some or most of the time. This includes 53% of Generation Z women, 49% of Millennials, 51% of Generation X, and 47% of Baby Boomers.

Unlike some wellbeing concerns, sleep affects women throughout different life stages. This allows brands to introduce women’s health positioning in a way that feels natural and credible. Hormonal health can strengthen the message where appropriate, but better sleep should remain the primary benefit.

Reposition cognitive health around performance

Consumers are also looking for support with focus, concentration, and mental energy.

Among Generation Z women, 52% experience a lack of mental focus some or most of the time. At the same time, 53% are interested in food and drink that provides sustained brain energy.

Rather than focusing on cognitive decline, brands should position products around everyday performance, productivity, and mental clarity. This creates relevance for younger consumers while supporting wider wellbeing goals.

Weight management is evolving

Weight management remains important, but consumer expectations are changing.

Almost half of Generation Z women (47%) say they want to lose weight. However, today’s consumers increasingly expect products to support metabolic health, sustained energy, and overall vitality instead of focusing solely on appearance.

This reflects a broader shift towards positive nutrition. Consumers want products that help them feel healthier and more energetic rather than reinforcing outdated weight-loss messaging.

The future of women’s health is universal wellness

The biggest opportunity for brands is not creating entirely separate women’s products. Instead, it is understanding how universal wellbeing needs should be framed for female consumers.

Stress, sleep, joint health, cognitive performance, and metabolic wellbeing are all priorities that resonate across generations. By leading with these everyday health outcomes and using hormonal health as supporting context where appropriate, brands can create propositions that feel more relevant, credible, and inclusive.

As the women’s health market continues to evolve, brands that focus on solving real consumer needs rather than relying on traditional category positioning will be best placed to build long-term trust.
